pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that improves fitness and well being, and assists in the management and prevention of injuries

Pilates exercises encourage the activation of the deep abdominal muscles that form a central core. A lack of core stability increases the likelihood of injuries by increasing the load placed on the surrounding muscles. Retraining the core muscles leads to increased efficiency, smoother movements, and enhanced function.

Importantly, Pilates energizes both the body and the mind, by focusing on easy, gentle movements and controlled breathing.

Benefits of Pilates:

· Improved muscle strength and tone
· Improved posture
· Increased flexibility
· Improves biomechanics
· Corrects muscle imbalances

Appropriate for:

· Back pain
· General neck and shoulder discomfort
· During and after pregnancy
· Active people who participate in regular sports
· Recurrent injuries particularly in the hamstring, groin, knee and shoulder
